The Assessor is an appointed local government official who maintains an inventory of all parcels in the Town in order to establish an assessed value for the equitable distribution of property taxes. In accordance with rules and regulations set forth in New York Real Property Tax Law, this value is converted into an assessment, which is one component in the computation of real property tax bills.  Assessment changes may also be made due to change in use, and/or issuance of a building permit for new construction, remodeling or demolition. The assessor's primary responsibilities are to:

  • Prepare the annual assessment roll

  • Discover, list and place a value on all real property

  • Establish market value

  • Assess according to condition and ownership on taxable status data

  • Determine exemption eligibility

Please Note: If you are applying for the STAR Exemption on a recently purchased home or if you have moved and are applying for the STAR Exemption for the first time on that property you will need to sign up online or over the phone with NYS Department of Tax and Finance.
